| Mirabai's passion
for dance became evident at the age of four when she began producing
daily recitals for family and friends.
Her training began shortly thereafter
in ballet, tap, and jazz. At the age of 16, inspired by her mother’s
long love of Middle Eastern Dance, Mirabai’s focus shifted
to belly dance.
Since her first explorations into
the art of Middle Eastern Dance, Mirabai has studied under many
nationally and internationally acclaimed dancers. Most recently
she has had the honor of studying with Amir Thaleb of Argentina,
Aziza of Montreal/Portland, Leila of Egypt, and Yousry Sharif,
Hadia, and Leila Haddad. Additionally, she has gained invaluable
coaching and insight from her studies and collaborations with
local dancers in Seattle and Las Vegas.
Mirabai now performs regularly
in Spiritus at the Rendezvous Jewel Box Theater, at the Marrakesh
in downtown Seattle, and Sabrina’s of Kent. As well, you
can find her at festivals, competitions, and dance seminars throughout
the country and in particular in the Northwest.
She is currently President of the
Northwest’s Middle East Arts International (MEAI), a non
profit organization seeking to expand and build cross-cultural
ties and the personal growth of all individuals via the support
and promotion of excellence in Middle East inspired music and
dance.
Mirabai is truly a delightful and
gifted performer. Her devotion to the dance, love of her audiences,
and artistry make her a brilliant dancer, choreographer and teacher.
